Fix undefined behaviour.

In the expression:
(a) ^= (b) ^= (a) ^= (b)
'a' and 'b' are evaluated and assigned multiple times, and it is
not clear in which order operations are performed.
This patch re-write the XOR swap in a more canonical way.
